We live in some of the most challenging times in recent history. War, climate change, homelessness, and a pandemic have forever changed the social landscape and impacted people’s lives forever. For those who work in fields of service – ministers, therapists, spiritual counselors, healers – we have found ourselves faced with the herculean task of assisting ever larger numbers of people in emotional and spiritual crisis. Meeting the needs of so many can result in burn-out, compassion fatigue, and a general malaise, so much so that a 2023 study from the Hartford Institute for Religion Research showed 53% of pastors have considered leaving the profession.

In this talk, Isa Gucciardi, PhD, explores ways we can ignite compassion and deepen our spiritual and emotional resilience to bring ourselves back into balance, find inspiration, and better serve our communities. Drawing from contemplative, spiritual, and ancient wisdom practices, Isa points to ways we can address the issues so many people are struggling with such as grief, loss, fear, and hopelessness. She helps us make sense of our experience and offers ways of deepening our compassion and wisdom.
